Lots and Lots of Alpaca
The body of this fabulous Four Corners Pussy Cap involves four strands of yarn. The first is a natural Peruvian alpaca tweed in its natural colors. Joining it s a strand of natural black alpaca and finally a tiny strand of teal Italian mohair. They make for a seriously beautiful fabric that's as wow as it is subtle. It's all trimmed in a really sweet purple baby alpaca that's also used as the inside band for the softness you need next to your forehead and ears. This Four Corners beauty is like having two caps in one as the turned up band is essentially an entirely second cap. For the coldest days of winter this is your cap!
Purple Alpaca Boucle`
Alternating with the rows of purple alpaca boucle` from Italy is a handpainted merino and silk yarn from Montana. The two yarns are really nice together, forming a lusciously soft fabric that feels super soft against the delicate skin of the forehead and ears. This Four Corners beauty has a snug but not tight fit so it'll stay on no matter what you're doing.
Green Alpaca Boucle`
Alternating with the rows of green baby alpaca boucle` from Italy is a handpainted merino and silk yarn from Montana. The two yarns are really nice together, forming a luscious fabric that feels super soft against the delicate skin of the forehead and ears. This Four Corners beauty has a snug but not tight fit so it'll stay on no matter what you're doing.
Qiviut and Merino Nekker
Qiviut is one of the softest and warmest fibers on earth; coming as it does from the extraordinary Musk Oxen that live in the farthest reaches of Canada and Alaska. Qiviut is their downy undercoat and it is certainly will keep your neck and head warm. Here I've coupled the Qiviut with a thin strand of beautifully handpainted ultrafine merino and then trimmed both open ends with the Qiviut. They're luscious together and will give you many years of warmth and enjoyment.
Blue Merino Trimmed in Black
Two beautiful handpainted yarns join together for a Four Corners cap that looks like it was conceived and birthed underwater near a coral reef. The first is a really soft merino yarn from Uruguay that boasts those beautiful underwater colors. Very small but adding a lot is a small strand of handpainted cashmere in olive greens. Towards the top of the cap a tiny strand of green mohair makes a brief appearance. I trimmed the cap in a natural black alpaca from Peru`. If you like blues and greens then you'll really love this one. A nice snug fit for anyone's head.

A Gathering of Yarns
Here is what I sometimes do with all of the ends of skeins that aren't enough to do a full cap from. I tie them all together and get busy crocheting. These caps don't happen very often because it takes awhile to collect enough of the remnants from the skeins to make them work. This is in my signature Four Corners style - the yarns are plenty soft for next to the skin and there's a nice drape at the crown. Snug fit for you boarders and skiers and the stitches are such that this cap will breathe. Btw, the knots where all of the yarns are tied together are there on the inside. Some people like to wear it reversed so you see all those wild knots and yarns.
Blue and Brown Merino/Alpaca Nekker
Blues, corals, tans and browns, this big luscious Nekker has it all. The blues are handpainted on a yarn that's a blend of merino and silk, which is what the Nekker is also trimmed with. It's joined by a strand of handpainted merino from Uruguay and a strand of alpaca tweed from Peru`. Lots of soft yarns here to keep your neck warm and protected for the cold days of winter.
Peruvian Alpaca and Uruguayan Merino
The beautiful and gently modulating colors you see here are the result of a handpainted merino wool from Uruguay. It's joined by a strand of Peruvian Alpaca in three of its natural colors. Together they make for an amazing Four Corners Pussy Cap that's as wonderful on as it is to look at. This one is really big with a turned up band that gives you virtually two caps in one for days where your head absolutely has to stay warm. Big drape at the crown for that distinctive Four Corners look.

Peruvian Alpaca and Bombyx Silk
This big and lusciously soft Four Corners Pussy Cap is made with three yarns crocheted together as one. They are pure white Bombyx silk, Peruvian alpaca tweed and a tiny thread of Italian mohair in lime green. The mohair made the fabric just slightly too itchy so I added a band of Italian cashmere and superfine alpaca on the inside where the cap touches the skin of the forehead and ears. It's beautiful and it works. This is a really big cap with tons of wonderful drape because of the silk and lots of warmth because of the alpaca.
Handspun Wensleydale Wool Four Corner
At a show near Sun Valley recently I found this beautiful handspun Wensleydale wool from a couple who raise sheep on their farm in the Magic Valley area of Idaho. Part of the wool has been kettle dyed a rich teal and the other is in its natural color. Too scratchy for next to the skin so I did an Italian cashmere band on the inside for the delicate skin of the forehead and ears. The Wensleydale wool is accompanied throughout the cap by a strand of Peruvian alpaca tweed in its natural colors. It's huge and it's beautiful and it's definitely what you want for the coldest days of winter.
I saw this golden hand-dyed merino in a favorite yarn shop in San Rafael and it jumped out into my arms. Rich colors are complimented by a strand of a Peruvian alpaca tweed in three of its natural colors - I used that same tweed to trim the cap with. It's thick and warm and feels amazing on. Plenty of room for anybody's head but it's not loose.

Alpaca Merino Four Corners
Peruvian alpaca tweed is one of my favorite yarns because it works so well with so many other yarns. Here I've combined it with a multi-color merino that's also from Peru`. The trim is a gorgeous natural espresso brown alpaca yarn from Sunrise Ranch in Utah. Big, bold and lusciously soft, yes. But it's also crazy warm and protective - and that's what these Four Corners Pussy Caps are all about.

It's trimmed in more black alpaca. It has a nice drape and a wonderful softness that's typical of this superfine grade of alpaca yarn. Easy fit for just about anybody's head.
